Shepard Fairey: On the Wall

Shepard Fairey is an internationally recognized contemporary artist whose creative works include street art, stickers, murals, screen printing, offset lithographs, T-shirts and other garments from his company OBEY Clothing. Fairey became more widely known in 2008 after creating the Obama Hope poster. His values and artworks are rooted in social justice, political activism, and the democratization of art; he is an advocate for humanity.  

Fairey's bold visuals stimulate critical thinking and awareness of others, as well as one's own response to existence in public spaces. He is known for creating visual works on behalf of humanity for various causes, including Women's Rights, presidential elections, and keeping Earth habitable for current and future generations.

Fairey understands that not everyone is comfortable with, or has the means for, visiting a traditional art gallery or museum. He believes in bringing art to where people live their everyday lives, and that art should be available for all to enjoy. We are deeply honored to present this exhibit for SRJC students and employees, and our surrounding communities.

Mahoney Library Gallery

On the Petaluma Campus, the Mahoney Library Gallery promotes student learning through fine art and course related exhibits, lectures and programming. The Gallery shows work by local and international artists, Santa Rosa Junior College students and faculty, and local community organizations. In addition, both virtual and physical library collections are highlighted tying in the cultural, political, and social identity of Petaluma and the SRJC community.
